Moving To Mauritius With Your Pets

Moving to Mauritius does not just happen, it needs proper preparations. Packing for a relocation can become a stressful phase. At the end of the day, the materials does not really matters even if a couple dishes may break or a box of clothing has been misplaced. You got an excuse to go shopping.

When it comes to animals, packing them up are tricky as they are pricless. As soon as the decision is make to relocate, you should arrange transportation of your pet in advance.

How to prepare your pet's trip to Mauritius?

  • Get your pet a pet passport
  • Make sure its vacciness are up-to-date and the vaccinations again rabies must not be less than two months old.
    • Other vaccinations for dogs: Distemper, Leptospirosis and Canine Parvovirus
    • Vaccination for cats: Feline Enteritis, Feline Rhineotracheitis and Feline Calicivirus
    • Other tests: Erlichiosis and Brucella Canis
  • The must be treated for internal and external parasites
  • Your pet must be microchipped that is a 15 digit and non-encrypted. It is necessary that your pet's microchip number must be current on all documentation required.
  • Apply an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture (Tel: + 230 454 1016)
    • An import fee of Rs 500 per animal and veterinary clearance fees (live animals and pets) of Rs 500 will be charged at the time of application

  • Book a place at the Quarantine station
  • Other charges:
    • Rent of kennel/cattery is Rs 15 per day per animal
    • Cost of food will be settled at the end of each month in case you did not get time to provide food for your pets, which is Rs 25 per day per animal
  • Visit your vet within seven days prior to the departure to get an international certificate of good health
