In a formal ceremony held on December 11, Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth marked the official inauguration of the Port-Louis Cruise Terminal. Representing a substantial investment of Rs 900 million, the state-of-the-art terminal spans an operational area of 7,500 square meters, designed to accommodate up to 4,000 passengers built by the Chinese government.
The terminal's development aligns seamlessly with the Mauritius Port Authority's (MPA) commitment to 'Green Port' principles, underscoring a dedication to fostering a sustainable blue economy. Notably, the project places a strong emphasis on environmental preservation and the safeguarding of both the natural surroundings and the historical heritage of the port city.
Anticipated to have a transformative impact on the local tourism sector, the inauguration of the cruise terminal is poised to generate significant economic advantages. Beyond boosting tourism, it is expected to provide substantial benefits to local businesses, thereby contributing to the overall growth of the national economy. Moreover, this development is strategically positioned to enhance Mauritius' standing within the Vanilla Islands Association, facilitating collaborative tourism initiatives across the various Indian Ocean islands. The inauguration represents a pivotal step in fortifying Mauritius' role as a key player in regional tourism efforts.
